Daf is the Kurdish large-sized frame drum of Iran used to be played mainly in religious occasions and recently in classical Persian music.
Daf is not only the large sized frame drum of Iran, but also in many other oriental countries like Iraq, Syria etc. Depending on the region, where the instrument has been played, obtained the Instrument many different but similar names like Deff, Daff, Duff and Defi.
In pre Islamic Iran the instrument was called Dap or Dep and after Islamizationing the country was called Daf.
