The legendary Ostad Said Hormozi, famous as a skilled setar player, radif grand master, one of the best known student s of Darvish Khan, was born in 1897 in Sangalach district of Tehran.
He began first playing tar autodidactically. Then at the age of 16 he studied tar by his brother Abolfat-h Mirza and after that both of instruments tar and setar by Darvish Khan. He got the famous Gold Mastery Diploma from Darvish Khan.
He studied also the radif repertiore of Mirza Hosseingholi and Ali Akbar Shahnazi under Ostd Ali Akbar Shahnazi.
Hormozi opened his class in Shapur street in Tehran in 1928.
1971 He collabrated with Radio and teached his students in Hefzo Esha’e music centre and recorded the radif repertoire of Darvish Khan.
There are many home recordings from Hormozi in form of Solo performances or others, in which he accompanies Soleyman Amirghasemi.
Hormozi passed away on 8th. December of 1976.
