Majid Kiani The renowned legendary of Persian Santoor
The renowned legendary of Persian Santoor, Majid Kiani, was born in Tehran in 1941. He studied Radif repertoire of Ostad Saba and works of Ali-Naghi Vaziri and Ruhollah Khaleghi at the Azad school of Music (Honarestan-e Azad-e Musighi). He continued his studies for four more years from Manoochehr Sadeghi and Mohammad Heydari.
Then he studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Tehran University in music department under Dariush Safvat and Noor-Ali Boroomand a part of Mirza-Abdollah radif repertoire. In order to continue the repertoire of Mirza-Abdollah and learing Habib Samai’s Santoor playing style he studied for more four years by Boroomand.
Kiani studied musicology under Professor Edith Weber and Tran Vanke at the SorbonneUniversity in Paris for three years.
Kiani Performed and founded Mirza Abdollah's repertoire for Santoor based on Nur-Ali Boroomand's interpretation, which he teaches for more than twenty years.
Kiani performed as a Radif interpreter many Santoor solos and publishes many Santoor solo performances.
Kiani is now the professor of Santoor at the music department of TehranUniversity.
